Dear Diary: Tatiana Parker on tour with Nicki Minaj

To be a dancer in Toronto is one thing.  To be a budding dancer in Toronto and leave your hometown for a big city where you don't know if you'll come out alive is another thing.

When I left to pursue my passion in LA, I was excited but incredibly anxious and nervous about the journey I was embarking on.  That butterfly feeling in your stomach, however, is ALWAYS a good thing.  It means your stepping out of your comfort zone, your being challenged, and quite frankly your growing in larger increments than many of your counterparts.

For Toronto dancer Tatiana Parker, she courageously took the plunge and hasn't looked back.  After training and performing in Toronto and across Canada, competing on So You Think You Can Dance, and moving across the border to Hollywood, she landed one of the ultimate dreams of a dancer - to go on tour.  And that she did with none other than rapper phenomenon Nicki Minaj.

In the first Dear Diary entry to be featured on my blog, Tatiana reveals what her experience has been like, opens up her world to us, and warms us into feeling that any and all of our dreams are possible.  GO ON Girl.  You've come a long way and we're proud of ya...

Dear Diary,
There's nothing like walking around listening to good music while exploring a foreign city. Maybe the nature got to my head today, but it really made me reflect on life. There's so much crap around that distracts us from the simple things. I'm starting to really understand the importance in appreciating all the things nature has to offer, and officially made a pact with myself to take advantage of it all!
I love life :)
Thanks Stockholm!”

Thinking back on when I wrote that during the first week of tour really makes me think about how fortunate I am to have just had the opportunity to travel the world doing something I love! It all happened so fast that I haven’t really been able to take it all in. From simply assisting Luther Brown while he was choreographing for the tour, to then getting a call saying that I have been hired on the job and we will be leaving in three days! I was shocked, stressed, and little bit scared. But I got it all together and now I can proudly say I was on tour with Nicki Minaj. It’s pretty cool and I’m proud of myself.

It took a lot to move away from home, but I knew it was something I needed to do in order to pursue this dance career. I’ve been here only six months and have already been blessed to work with some awesome artists and phenomenal choreographers. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely has not all been success since I’ve moved here. I have been cut from more auditions than I have been kept, but it has all added to my growth in this profession. It’s crazy to think about how much work us dancers dedicate to our career and how much time and effort we put into getting ready for something like an audition - where we have a 99.9% failure rate, but yet, we still do it because we LOVE it! We LOVE dance! It is our passion, our obsession, our life! I can personally say, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world!

In love with dance,
